On cruises and such ...
Caught up on Stuck in the '80s episodes yesterday while raking leaves. Spearsy and B-Rad recording recap updates while on the '80s Cruise and sounding like they were having the times of their lives.
I mean, I'd LOVE to have that kind of vacation - hanging out in the sun, watching great '80s artists play their hits. When Spearsy talked about the just announced 2019 lineup (Dee Snider, Berlin, The Fixx, Cutting Crew + more to come), I did the thing one should never do when a cost isn't shared up front ... I clicked on the '80s Cruise link and navigated to the Pricing page. Prices start at $2,500 for what I imagine is a single bed on an inside cabin (ie - no windows). Tack on the cost of traveling to the shipping out port and it's - at minimum - a $3,000 solo vacation. Go with a friend or loved one and you're looking at $6,000.
WHO CAN AFFORD THAT? Obviously, a lot of people. Cruises aren't going away anytime soon due to lack of occupancy but, wow, I can think of a dozen ways to spend that money on long-lasting home improvements. I know people spend money differently but I still can't wrap my head around people who go on multiple cruises.
Still, with each passing year, '80s acts get one year older. We're getting close to an end of an era so I'll continue to check out pricing, hoping that someday I find a ridiculously good deal to hop aboard a boat with bands that I used to watch on MTV and sail the seas while watching them run through their greatest hits and maybe, just maybe, having one-on-one interaction with a few of them while in the buffet line!
